Three weeks ago I spontaneously planned a trip to the USA, wanting to surprise my host family in Maine.
What, a host family? Yes, when I was 16 I stayed abroad in the USA to attend one year of high school. A host family in Maine took me under their wings and during this time I participated in all the traditional American things like; Prom, Thanksgiving, watching football matches and what more.
When I called my American sister Colleen 3 weeks ago she was over the top excited. Although she visited me in Amsterdam in 2013, it has been 12 years since I saw my American Mom and Dad.
From Colleens house in Boston we drove up to Maine. We arrived at 9.30 PM and walked into the living room. I guess it took ām a second or two to realize it was me standing there, but Iām glad they were excited to see me. So was I!
I was only here for the weekend and they also had a BBQ family reunion planned, so I got to meet a whole lot more of the family. Of course we took the opportunity to swim in the lake. The lakes here are just gorgeous, I always loved swimming here and was really looking forward to that too!
