Everyone knows Hiroshima because of the first atomic bomb that was dropped here in 1945. Therefore the Peace Park is the main tourist attraction, with the Peace Memorial Museum and the A-Bomb Dome that is the only building that survived the blast.
Take it all in and after 2 hours you’ve completely strolled through the museum, photographed all the memorials in and around the park, so now you go explore the rest of Hiroshima. There is a castle and a lovely park that caught my interest, but Hiroshima isn’t the reason why I came all the way down here.
Just outside Hiroshima is Miyajima; a charming small island with the floating torii. Probably one of the most photographed structures in Japan and of course I had to click my own picture! After shooting away you can take the cable car up to Mt. Misen. Check out the view on top and hike the trail through the forest all the way back to town. This island makes it all worth the visit.
