The weekend of 18-20 May was the annual Anime convention in Theaterhotel Almelo. I’ve been going since 2004 and every time a lot of con goers including myself get dressed up as a cool anime or game character.
Shortly after the previous con me and my friends met up for food, drinks and laughs and decided to go as a Soul Calibur group. With months of preparation we ended up with a Kamikirimusi (Lou), Angol Fear (Lesley), Maxi (Zhe), Yun Seong (Martijn) and Ivy (myself). Unfortunately Jay couldn’t do Yoshimitsu and helped me by building amazing props.
The past weekend passed by too quickly. Beforehand I added all the events I was interested in, in my Google calendar; the Cosplay Compo’s, AMV/EMV Compo, I love Japan, Whiskey Tasting and some more. In the end I didn’t visit as much events as I would’ve liked but that happens every time due to having too much fun hanging around with friends.
From the events that I’ve visited, the EuroCos was superb; there were some amazing cosplayers there, the whiskey tasting was outside, thus cold and the fact that I don’t like whiskey doesn’t help either. The Ecchi Music Video compo, which I really wanted to see, started more than an hour later so I left the room before it started.
All in all I can say I really enjoyed this years convention. During the closing ceremony they announced that they might move the convention to the World Forum in The Hague next year. Personally I think that’s a bummer. The Theaterhotel has been the perfect location of all the conventions I’ve been to, plus it’s been here since I started going in 2004. For me it’s like a small holiday. If it moves to The Hague I would be very disappointed and it will definitely lose its magical touch. Guess I’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
And of course, a few pictures:
Me as Ivy from Soul Calibur V
Me as Juri from Super Street Fighter IV
Lou as Momohime from Muramasa
And as tradition, me and Jay
