Are you visiting Dublin and have an extra day to spare? Then I can definitely recommend Glendalough a.k.a. Wicklow Mountains. This National Park is only a 1.5-hour drive from Dublin.
When I visited this place we had a rental car and just enjoyed driving through Irelands countryside. You can also take a tour to this place, but then you miss out on this lovely road trip.
Parking at Glendalough is €4 which you need to pay cash at the entrance. There are two parking lots, the first is a bit farther from the lake but you’ll pass a lovely monastery. From the first parking lot it’s a 20-minute walk to the second parking lot and the lake.
At Glendalough you can take several walking routes through the park. Since we only had about 2-3 hours to spend at this place, we walked the white path along the lake. It was actually rather quiet and we didn’t have a lot of other tourists arounds us, which was perfect.
