As we’re getting closer to Cape Town, we started driving through the Garden Route; one of the most popular destinations in South Africa. Therefore we took the time to check out some of the highlights.
Addo Elephant Park
Addo was the last safari on the itinerary, a smaller park but with a huge chance to actually see the big five. We were lucky enough to see two elephants walking right past our car and even more amazing were the 3 lions only a few meters away.
Tsitsikamma National Park
The suspension bridge is the main attraction of Tsitsikamma National Park. This bridge hangs just 7 meters above the raging sea. With powerful currents flowing just underneath your feet, the bridge feels rather mighty.
Plettenberg Bay
Driving through Plettenberg Bay is unreal. Where we’ve seen plenty of poverty throughout South Africa, huge villas fill this area. Seeing this huge difference between the rich and poor was kind of a culture shock.
Knysna
We stayed 2 nights in the popular coastal town Knysna, which was perfect to check out the sights in the area. One of these sights was a boat trip to Featherbed Natural Reserve; a privately owned reserve. The downside was that you can only visit this place with a tour group. Although I hate traveling with groups I thought it might be worthy. The views were quite spectacular though.
Wilderness
On our last day through the Garden Route, Wilderness Park was on the agenda; a place for hiking, canoeing and outdoor activities. We took an easy 7 km stroll through the forest with a waterfall at the end.
