During this trip to South Africa I definitely wanted to visit the untouched Wild Coast, and it seemed that the best place to visit was Coffee Bay. The only road that leads to this place is full of potholes, but don’t let that discourage you to visit.
Most of the visitors are backpackers, which instantly gave this place a relaxing vibe. When you come, expect to want to stay for a while. Since we’re doing a fast paced trip, we used our 1.5 day to get the most out of it.
On our day of arrival we checked out the village and went to the beach; a beautiful little bay with hardly any tourists. You’ll find some of the backpackers learning to surf and locals enjoying the Indian Ocean.
During our full day I joined Backpackers Coffee Shack with a guided tour to Hole in the Wall; a 9 kilometer hike through the bays, beaches and hills of the Wild Coast. Although this hike was a bit more strenuous than I originally thought, I did love every moment of it.
The scenery throughout the whole hike is breathtaking; the view of the cliffs and the ocean is unlike any coastline I’ve ever seen before. You don’t come here for the actual “Hole in the Wall”, but to enjoy the alluring landscape.
