Winter sun in Tenerife
During my short stay in Southern Spain, I planned a day trip to Seville. After hearing only promising stories I decided this must be a city worth visiting. Since I only had one day I had to make choices which of the highlights had to be in my itinerary.
The Alcázar of Seville
This royal palace was built during the Moorish era and beautifully made. It is similar to the Alhambra in Granada with lovely gardens and grand open spaces. Since I’ve read about the long lines to visit this place, I already ordered my ticket online the day before. Which definitely saved time as I could walk straight through.
Plaza de Espana
Although I’m not easily impressed, the plaza de Espana grabbed me by surprise. This place is just grand! With a small canal with boats along the building it has similarities to Venice. At the center is a huge square which is surrounded by a semicircle of a massive complex, housing multiple government offices. Oh and one more good part, this place has no admission fee.
Seville Cathedral
Unfortunately, due to limited time and a huge waiting line, I didn’t get to visit the inside of the cathedral. But the cathedral of Seville is the largest gothic cathedral in the world. It’s also right across the Alcázar of Seville and not to be missed. While in the area, take the time to stroll around the old part of Seville with the small streets and plenty of cafes and restaurants.
Metropol Parasol
About a 15-minute walk from the cathedral is the Metropol Parasol. Actually a modern monstrosity in the city center, but it’s unusual shape can be an interesting subject for unusual photographs.
Tapas
While in Spain, the tapas can’t be missed. During seeing sights also take the time to stop and enjoy the local food. Just sit on a terrace outside and look around. This is usually the best part of visiting any place.
