In mid April the Thai celebrate their new year with an all out water fight. Songkran is also known as the water festival where nobody’s safe from a good splash.
During this festivity young and old roam the streets with water guns, buckets, hoses, or anything that can be used to soak anyone you see. Staying dry on this day simply is impossible unless you stay indoors.
Make sure you’re prepared and put valuables such as an iPhone and wallet in a dry-bag. This way it’ll stay safe from all the buckets of water you’ll receive. Oh and a small squirt gun is like using a pee shooter against a rocket launcher.
Songkran is a fun day that brings people together, you’re constantly under attack, if it isn’t by water, people will come up to you and put talcum powder all over your face.
The rule is never to get mad and just join the fun. I came across a grumpy Russian who just arrived and couldn’t appreciate the water, this made us even more anxious to give him a good downpour 😀
