Back home from a fun but hectic week. I had 2 trips planned; the first one was to Prague with my dad, aunt and cousin from the States. The second was to Lisbon with my friend Wendy with one day of work in between.
Prague was great. The weather forecast predicted an overload of rain; luckily we had two days of sunshine. The river tide was pretty high and the Karl’s bridge was closed the first day but that didn’t spoil the fun.
I ate a lot of good food, had plenty of laughs and enjoyed the historical center. My cousin Asha and I especially enjoyed the ‘Trdelnik’, a type of hollow cinnamon roll. Also seeing monks making pictures with their big smartphone was an interesting sight.
After 2 shorts nights of sleep and a full day of work my second trip to Lisbon started. I’ve never been to Portugal and I wanted to visit this city for a while now and I’m glad I did. What an amazing contrast between the old town, with what my tourism teacher called “faded glory” and the newer more modern parts.
The first day we walked up some steep hills in the old town and had some stunning views on top. The day before was the holiday St. Antonius and the streets were still a mess, nevertheless we could appreciate the festive decorations.
The second day we took the metro to ‘Orient’, here we visited the largest Oceanarium in Europe, took the cable cart by the ocean and went on a shopping spree in the huge mall they had over there. I bought a new pair of Ralph Lauren sunglasses at the sunglass hut, since all my colleagues thought my shiny yellow Oakley glasses were out of fashion.
Tram 15 took us to Belem on the last day; here is the old monastery and the Belem tower. It was pretty hot but we surely enjoyed the sun, knowing that it was raining back in the Netherlands.
Now it’s time to plan my next city trip.
