From Tuscany we drove our rental car to Cinque Terre. Going off the toll road we still had an hour drive across the small and windy roads to finally reach Monterosso.
Monterosso is one of the five towns of Cinque Terre and also the largest. From here you can take the trail to Vernazza and all the way up to Riomaggiore. Walking the entire trail could be done in about six hours.
After we parked our car, the girl at the information desk informed us that the trail was closed due to the heavy rain the past few days. Although I felt a huge disappointment, we had to make the most of it. We first started to explore the town Monterosso, took a bunch of photos and stepped on the train to Vernazza.

Vernazza is the town you always see on all the postcards of Cinque Terre. Luckily from here we were able to hike some of the trail back to Monterosso so that we also had that perfect lookout over the town and click our own postcard picture. Yayy, the disappointment fell of my shoulders immediately.
My very own postcard-picture
Being all happy we were able to walk a bit of the trail we now took our time to explore the town, eat ice cream and climb the castle. Vernazza must be the most popular, thus busiest town of Cinque Terre, but nonetheless one of the prettiest places in Italy.

With a smile on our face and a fulfilled day, we took the train back to our car to drive to our next destination; Lake Como.
