Last September our road trip through Italy came to an end. The final stop was Venice where we would spend our last day before flying back home.
From Milan we boarded the high speed train towards Venice Mestre, the station just outside of the main island. We stayed here for the night which was a whole lot cheaper than to actually stay on the island itself. In the morning we hopped on the train to Venice that brought us there in only 10 minutes.

We stored our luggage for the day at the ‘Keep Calm Point’ just outside the station. Now we had plenty of time to explore the area. I loved walking from the station to the St Marco square. These parts of Venice are rather authentic and you have the place all to yourself. It might also have helped that we walked these streets in the morning. Small canals with cute bridges to walk across, we couldn’t stop taking pictures of about every corner and every bridge.
The closer we came to the St Marco square, the busier it got. I remember coming here about 15 years ago. Back then it was cozy busy. Nowadays the square is packed with tourists, a bit claustrophobic even. Luckily Venice is big enough to get away from the huge crowds and quietly enjoy your time here.
I definitely enjoyed coming back to Venice, especially for a day this place is surely worth its visit.
