One of the annual highlights during the summer in Amsterdam is the Prinsengracht concert. A classical music show in front of the Pulitzer hotel. Admission is free and people gather on boats and around on the street to witness the live performance.
This was the first year I joined the Prinsengracht concert, on a wonderful warm summer evening. The concert started at 8 PM, but we already gathered at 6:30 PM with our drinks and snacks. And by boat is of course the best way to get close and absorb the good vibes.
Before the spectacle started, the sponsor AVROTROS handed out bracelets that would light up later at night. I found it impressive that all the bracelets would change colours at the same time and in the same tone as the surrounding lights.
The Prinsengracht concert always finishes with the song “Aan de Amsterdamse grachten”, where the whole crowd sang-a-long. This was especially the highlight of the evening.
At the end we had a midnight boat tour along the canals and over the IJ, back to the Central Station. What a great summer evening it was.
