When first arriving in Sri Lanka it is easier to skip the capital Colombo and go straight to Negombo, this beach town is closer to the airport and an easy place to arrange everything for your trip.
On the airport after the baggage claim I arranged a local SIM card with 5GB of data for about €10. There are different stands of providers to choose from but I read that Dialog has the best coverage. I can vouch for this since I had 3G in all the places I went.
The guesthouse Binnacle Stay I stayed at in Negombo was just perfect; I could call it paradise and sure recommend it. They even helped me arrange a motorbike/scooter for my stay here.
My first day in Sri Lanka I walked along the beach with my feet in the Indian Ocean, such a thrilling sensation to be far away from home and let the holiday vibe slowly sink in.
This day I even drove a tuktuk myself which is so much fun, all these times you only ride in the back but going along with the crazy driving is so much better.
