Are you coming to Amsterdam and need a few pointers where the locals eat or drink? Listed are my favorite places that will not let you down.
Stoop & Stoop
Close to the famous Leidseplein among the typical touristic restaurants is this little treasure: Stoop & Stoop. Since I’m a huge fan of good and affordable food, this soon came to be my regular place for sate or spareribs. In a typical Dutch brown cafe setting Stoop & Stoop is busy any night of the week.
Hannekes Boom
From Central Station it’s about a 10 minute walk towards Hannekes Boom. This place lives up especially during the summer. With picnic tables all around and its location by the water this is where coworkers get together for a Friday night drink while enjoying the sun.
Barca
Come to Barca for lunch at their outside terrace or enjoy their delicious tapas at night. With her location on the Marie Heinekenplein it’s right in the center of Amsterdam. I loved sharing the tapas on their menu and was positively surprised with their dessert.
‘t Vliegertje
If I’m not eating out at Stoop & Stoop, ‘t Vliegertje in the Scheldestraat is my place to go. They’re known for the sate and it’s truly the best I’ve ever had. With a 3 course menu of €30 per person this place is still affordable. Come here when you’re close to the RAI or visiting the Rivierenbuurt.
Het Noorderlicht
Take the the ferry to the NDSM wharf and enjoy the hippy vibe of het Noorderlicht. Sit outside on the grass, at their picnic tables or by the campfire and enjoy the relaxing music of of their DJ playing live.
