Would you love to experience the cherry blossom festival, but flying to Japan is a bit much? Not to worry, you can experience the Sakura trees right here in the Netherlands.
Hanami is an annual festival in Japan which is celebrated around March and April. During this time the Sakura trees come into bloom, which attracts all the local Japanese for a picnic underneath the falling blossoms.
In the ‘Amsterdamse Bos’ in Amstelveen is a cherry blossom park that comes to life early spring. Last Sunday the weather was perfect so I took the opportunity to finally visit this wonder of nature. The trees are a magical sight, especially when the wind catches the leaves that fall all around you. Unfortunately but also understandable the park is enormously crowded around this time, so it’s best to visit it during the week days.
Excited? Hurry up! This week you’re still good to go. The official festival is on April 8, but maybe a tad too late to experience the full bloom.

Lovely photos!
I missed the festival yesterday. Is this open to public? Do we need to pay to get in?
Thank you.
Thank you!
The cherry blossom park is open to the public and there’s no admission fee. You can just simply walk in and out.
Enjoy it!
