It’s the end of 2015 so naturally it is time to reflect on the past year, and for me that is reflecting on a past year in travels.
This year has unexpectedly been a good travel year for me. I never would have guessed I would have done and experienced this much in the past 12 months.
At the end of February I went to Austria for the annual skiing trip. I always loved the adrenaline feel when going downhill on the mountain. This trip always is a great combination of delicious food, adrenaline rush and relaxing in the snow.
Just one week later I packed my bags again. I suddenly had a 3 week time off so I booked a last minute flight to Sri Lanka. Back to the Asian roots and traveling solo. After my backpacking experience in 2014 I was used to this type of travelling. I only booked my first hotel and planned my journey while exploring this beautiful country.
By the time I came back from Sri Lanka I started a new job and it was time to get some work done for a few months.
My 30th birthday I celebrated in Cologne, Germany. Getting away for a weekend to this surprisingly enjoyable city was a treat.
In August I’m proud to say I had my YOLO experience with skydiving in Texel with my 74 year old Dad. I loved jumping out of an airplane and fully enjoy this free fall. Doing this together with my father was truly unbelievable.
Another unexpected trip was to Japan in September. Since I’ve visited the country of the rising sun in 2014, it wasn’t high on my must-visit list. But since I was going with Seb and he dreamed of this place, I didn’t mind going as well. I found a good priced flight ticket and decided to book at the spur of the moment. Of course I took a different route than my last visit and got to see the beautiful Japanese countryside.
As I just returned, 3 weeks later I went to Valencia, Spain with my Dad for 4 days. This is also a place I can recommend to anyone. Since it was October by now I was glad I could still enjoy some of the warm Mediterranean temperature.
This fall I’m also proud to have set up my new website, from my previous website the-essy I went to a full travel site where I can share my experiences.
The last few months of the year I’ve been working but I already booked my next trip. I’m glad to say I’ll be visiting South Africa in 2016 and who knows what other exciting journeys are awaiting. I’m confident 2016 will be a great year.
