Finally! The Canadian Rocky Mountains, an exciting part of our trip through Western Canada. All the mountains and lakes until your heart’s content.
Jasper Skytram
We arrived in Jasper in the late afternoon and the first thing on the agenda is the Jasper Skytram. This gondola brings me 2263 meters above sea level, so when up on the mountain it’s still a bit chilly. From the gondola I hiked the steep climb towards the summit of the mountain. Feeling on top of the world!
Lakes around Jasper
On the next beautiful sunny day we explored the area around Jasper. First stopping at Maligne Canyon, a trail with 6 bridges over the canyon. My Mom and I walked to 2 of the bridges together, from there she walked back and picked me up with the car at the 5th bridge, lucky me!
A quick photo stop at Medicine Lake.
Maligne Lake, definitely more touristy but when I walked a bit further up the trail I was all by myself again. Exactly how i like it.
Pyramid Lake, which has a bridge towards a cute island in the middle of the lake.
Icefields Parkway
Leaving Jasper we started driving the scenic route, the Icefields Parkway.
Not far from town is Mount Edith Cavell, driving up the windy road to get there and from the parking lot a small climb to the lake.
Athabasca Falls, a powerful waterfall along the route.
We finished the day at Columbia Icefield. An ice field with 6 glaciers, one of them is the Athabasca Glacier. We took a tour with a tank type bus on top of the glacier. Although very impressive, also a bit of a tourist trap with many other tourists. Included is also the skywalk, but these aren’t necessary to get spectacular views of the glaciers.
On top of the glacier.
Pretty icefield views.
